The U.S. Forest Service looking for volunteers to assist with the Winter Trek Express environmental education program for fifth-graders.

usfs-logo-282x300-8486396-8241985South Lake Tahoe, Calif. –The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is looking for ski and snowboard volunteers to lead guided interpretive tours at Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort one day a week from January through April 2012.
 
These interpretive tours are intended to educate resort visitors about the natural and cultural history of the Lake Tahoe Basin, highlighting topics such as water quality, watershed restoration, habitat improvement, fire and fuels management and responsible recreation.
 
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who have a strong desire to work outdoors with the public.  The ideal volunteer should be an intermediate skier or snowboarder with good communication skills, an outgoing personality and the ability to commit to a minimum of four hours per week from January 13 through April 13, 2012.  The Forest Service will provide training and a day pass for each tour.
