SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Members from the Reno Police Department’s Community Action Officer Unit along with social workers from the Veterans Administration and Washoe County Social Services are out in the community meeting with homeless individuals in an effort to connect them with available resources in the area.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2011, the group met with several individuals that were unaware of all the local service providers in the area. The resources presented included temporary and long-term housing assistance, meals and food services, clothing, job assistance, and health services.

Another homeless outreach is scheduled for Wednesday, December 14. Any news outlet interested in participating in a ride-along for the outreach is asked to contact the Reno Police Department’s Community Action Officer Unit at 657-4543 by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13.

The Reno Police Community Action Officer Program infuses the principles of Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS), Crime Fighting, Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), resource management, and innovation into our community and within the department.
