Medical Exercise program begins Friday, July 1
Exercise has long been associated with improving overall health, specifically for those with medical conditions and on Friday, July 1 Saint Mary’s Center for Health and Fitness will launch the region’s first Medical Exercise Program. The new program will provide support and professional consultation to those with medical conditions and those looking to improve their health and overall quality of life. The program offers specialized tracks which include cancer rehab, cardiac fitness, pre- and post-natal fitness, medical exercise and weight management programs. Additionally, the fitness center will offer a Medical Exercise gym membership designed for participants after they complete a specialized program or those interested in general membership. FREE Chronic Disease Management Class Series – Begins July 14
If you are 55 or older and have arthritis, heart or lung problems, high blood pressure, cancer or other chronic conditions, our free six-week class is for you. During the program, you will learn how to manage your chronic disease through exercise techniques, community resources, setting goals, and knowledge on how to optimize your relationship with your physician. Classes will take place every Thursday beginning on July 14 through Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the City of Reno Neil Road Recreation Center on 3925 Neil Road. Saint Mary’s monthly Community WellCheck offers a wide variety of affordable health screenings and immunizations to help identify potential health risks. Hands-on Grocery Store Tour only $10 –July 21
Saint Mary’s team of registered dietitians is offering a hands-on Grocery Store Tour on Thursday, July 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at Scolari’s at 4788 Caughlin Parkway in Reno. Tours will provide participants with budget-wise shopping tips that can be used to purchase healthy, nutritional foods. The cost of the tour is only $10. To register, call 770-7100.
Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation Program – Starts Aug. 16
If you are interested in quitting smoking, Saint Mary’s Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation program is for you. Beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 16 and ending on Sept. 13, a licensed tobacco specialist will provide participants with the tools they need to quit smoking. Classes are held every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Health Enhancement at 1625 East Prater Way in Sparks. The cost of the class is $95. Jump Start a Healthy Life Program- Starts Aug. 31
Studies show that 50 percent of our health over time is directly related to healthy lifestyle habits. Jump Start a Healthy Life provides information about nutrition, fitness and stress management to help individuals develop a personalized plan to improve overall health. It includes a computerized risk assessment of family and personal health history, lifestyle practices, social support factors and blood test results and is taught by registered dietitians, certified fitness professionals, registered nurses and behaviorists. The class is held every Wednesday beginning Aug. 31 through Oct. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Saint Mary’s at Galena on 18653 Wedge Parkway in Reno. Tdap shots for entering 7th graders at Saint Mary’s Immunizations
All entering seventh graders are now required to get immunized against Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) before enrolling in a public or private school. Saint Mary’s Immunizations is making it easy for your child to receive the immunization. Shots cost $16 for the community and are free for Saint Mary’s HealthFirst or Health Choice members.
Meningococcal Vaccinations for entering college freshman
All students planning to live in the college dormitories are required to get the Meningococcal vaccination. Saint Mary’s Immunizations will offer the vaccination to all 2011 High School graduates for $138. If you are a Saint Mary’s HealthFirst or Health Choice member, the vaccination is offered at no charge.
