Reno residents Christopher Galleron, Samantha Godinez and Maria Rosas were three of 15 students recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship certificate from Greater Nevada Credit Union. Over 88 students throughout Northern Nevada applied for the program, which the Credit Union has offered for the past 12 years. Galleron, Godinez, and Rosas will all attend the University of Nevada, Reno.

“It’s our pleasure to provide financial support to some of the region’s best students so they can continue their education,” said Wally Murray, President/CEO for Greater Nevada Credit Union.

The scholarships were awarded on a competitive basis and winners were selected based on their financial need, academic performance, school and community involvement, and recommendations from school and community leaders. The $1,000 scholarships can be used for tuition, course registration, special class or laboratory fees, room and board, textbooks and class materials. In addition to the 15 recipients, five alternates were named in the event that one or more of the winners is unable to enroll and attend school on a full-time basis during the 2011-2012 school year.
