SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

This morning at 8:03 a.m., Reno firefighters responded to a garage fire at a single family residence located at 30 Starburst Circle in Spanish Springs.

“Crews were faced with an aggressive fire due to venting propane tanks in the garage that accelerated the fire,” advised Battalion Chief Sandy Munns. “Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the garage and keep it from extending to the residential portion of the house.”

Due to the fire being contained to the garage and no damage occurring to the living quarters the residents will be able to return home and not be displaced.

The occupants did safely evacuate the home prior to crews arriving on scene. No injuries were reported.

The fire penetrated into the attic space and caused extensive damage to the garage and the contents inside. At this time, the preliminary estimate for damages has not been set. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding to the fire were three structure engines, one safety officer, one fire investigator, and one battalion chief. Due to the location of the residence, Sparks Fire Department responded for automatic aid but was cancelled prior to arrival due to the quick knockdown of the fire. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident to provide support services. NV Energy was also on scene helping fire crews by shutting off gas and electric services.
