BLM seeks nominations to Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council

CARSON CITY — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City and Winnemucca District, is accepting public nominations through Monday, May 2, for five open positions on its Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC), which advise the agency on public land issues in Washoe, Churchill, Storey, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, Carson City, Humboldt and Pershing counties in Nevada and Alpine County in California.

The RAC meets 3-4 times a year, usually quarterly, and provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM Carson City and Winnemucca District Managers and the BLM Nevada State Director, on management of the public lands within the council’s geographic area.

Nominees should live within the geographical area encompassed by the RAC.

Nominees are being sought from within the following five RAC member categories:

  • Energy and mineral development organizations;
  • Federal grazing permittee or one who leases and represents permittees or lessees.
  • Nationally or regionally recognized wildlife organization;
  • Academician in natural resource management or natural sciences; and
  • Nevada State agency responsible for the management of natural resources, land, or water.

All nominations must include letters of reference from the represented interests or organizations; a completed nomination form; and any other information that speaks to the nominee’s qualifications.

Nominees will be selected on the basis of their training, education, and knowledge of the council’s geographical area. Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collaborative resource decision-making.
