CARSON CITY — The Bureau of Land Management-Nevada (BLM) announces the spring meeting of the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC), which will meet on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 8:00 a.m., at the BLM-Carson City District Office (CCDO), 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, Nev. A field trip will be conducted (weather-permitting) on Thursday, March 31, starting at 8:00 a.m., and will include stops at various public land sites in Churchill County before returning to the CCDO by 5:00 p.m.
The public may present general written and/or oral comments to the RAC in Carson City at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30. Members of the public are invited to participate both days, but they will need to provide their own transportation and lunch on the field trip on Wednesday, March 31. Topics of RAC discussion will include: District Manager’s reports on current program of work, landscape approach/land health assessment processes, impacts to proposed wind energy projects in eagle habitat, BLM wildlands policy, geothermal program review, Salt Wells Energy Projects Draft Environmental Impact Statement, field tour of ENEL Geothermal Power Plant at Salt Wells (Churchill County), Nevada Historic Marker Dedication for Pony Express Trail at the ENEL Plant, and other topics brought up by RAC members.
At 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, a special presentation will be made of Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) Round 12 preliminary project funding recommendation and the RAC will host a public comment period specific to the proposals. SNPLMA proposal recommendations, project tables, executive summaries, and project nominations are currently available on the SNPLMA website at www.blm.gov/snplma. The public may also submit written comments to the SNPLMA Executive Committee Chair, BLM Nevada State Office, 1340 Financial Boulevard, Reno, NV 89502-7147, faxed to the attention of the SNPLMA Executive Committee Chair at (775) 861-6601 or emailed to [email protected]. The SNPLMA Executive Committee will review the comments, and forward its final recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior for approval, in consultation with the Secretary of Agriculture. The Executive Committee includes the regional directors of the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service Regional Forester, and the BLM Nevada State Director.
