Sheriff’s Office Detectives Arrest a Male for Stealing $50,000 in Furniture

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division arrested a suspect for the theft of furniture from a fully furnished property, which was reported stolen on July 13, 2010.  The suspect, Michael Hoggatt, was arrested for Grand Larceny and Possession of Stolen Property.  Michael Hoggatt was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility; his bail was set at $5,000.

On July 13, 2010, a homeowner (victim) came into the Sheriff’s Office to file a report for missing furniture valued at $50,000.  The victim said Michael Hoggatt rented the home in May 2010.  The victim said he advised Michael Hoggatt that all furniture was to remain in the residence.

On July 13th, the victim went to the property to meet Michael Hoggatt to perform an exit walk-through inspection since Michael Hoggatt was moving out.  Upon arrival, the victim discovered that all of the furniture was gone.  The victim said Michael Hoggatt never show up for the exit walk-through either.  Michael Hoggatt’s whereabouts could not be determined at this time.

On January 13, 2011, the investigation led Sheriff’s Detectives to Michael Hoggatt’s location, undisclosed residence in Reno, Nevada.  Detectives made contact with Michael Hoggatt and he was found to be in possession of the stolen furniture.  Michael Hoggatt was taken into custody and transported to the Detention Facility without incident.  The stolen items were recovered as well.
