GENOA, Nev. — Horseback riders will see spectacular views of Carson Valley during the first Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival Pleasure Trail Ride Saturday, May 1. The ride will begin at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m., head into the Pine Nut Mountains and return in time for lunch.
“We want to share our joy and love of riding and the beauty of Carson Valley with others,” says organizer Dave Rich, who heads the ride committee that includes Deby O’Gorman, Lee Bonner and Sara Groenendyke. “It will be an easy, three-hour ride for beginners and intermediates.”
The trail ride will lead over flat and gently rolling, sandy terrain and on some dirt roads for about eight miles. It is one of more than 80 special activities to be held in conjunction with the first Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival April 29-May 2. The festival will take place at a dozen locations in and around the town and is sponsored by Genoa and the Carson Valley Arts Council.

Riders will receive t-shirts and lunch. Raffle tickets will be sold for prizes such as dinners at the JT Basque Bar and Dining Room in Gardnerville and an equestrian first aid kit. Camping will be available at the fairgrounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for $5 per day; horse accommodations will be available for $5-15 per day.
