Experience music with the Reno Chamber Orchestra: Rembrandt and the music of his time

Visit the Nevada Museum of Art for a unique evening with the Reno Chamber Orchestra to learn about the worldwide musical trends of the 17th Century and how music may have informed the work of Rembrandt van Rijn. The Museum present’s a special talk by Scott Faulkner, Reno Chamber Orchestra Executive Director, and Chris Morrison, Reno Chamber Orchestra Operations Manager designed to give guests a historical overview of the music and characteristics of the time, including Renaissance and Baroque stylings.

Faulkner and Morrison will discuss Rembrandt’s depictions of music in his work, as well as those of his contemporaries, and how those depictions relate to key historical figures and occurrences. The pair will delve into the influence of the sacred and secular on music and the Renaissance master’s work. The talk will be followed by a question and answer session.

Rembrandt: The Embrace of Darkness and Light is on exhibition through Saturday, Jan. 17, 2010.
