If you had 5 minutes on stage, what would you say? On September 15, you’ll have your chance to find out at the 3rd Ignite Reno event, taking place in conjunction with the University of Nevada, Reno’s Business Week, at 6:30pm at Amendment 21.
Ignite participants each present a 20-slide presentation that automatically advances every 15 seconds. Talk about anything you want, but make it quick. Past Ignite Reno presentations have run the gamut from techno-speak to random rants, and have included such titles as “I Learned Everything I Needed About Life From 80s Movies,” and “iPhone Application Development Distilled.”
The idea was first spawned in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest, “Technology Evangelist” of O’Reilly Media, and Bre Pettis of Etsy.com. Originally mainly tech-oriented, it drew mostly geeks and tech lovers in the burgeoning start-up community in Seattle. Part mixer, part seminar, Ignite is a fun way to share random bits of knowledge while getting to know people. The idea has caught on so well that hundreds of Ignite events have been held in cities around the world.
