Update:

Multiple city agencies along with the Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) HAZMAT program temporarily shut down Lakemill Lodge at the corner Mill and Lake streets Wednesday following a coordinated inspection. The effort, part of ongoing code enforcement under Reno’s Motel Improvement Program, revealed serious health and safety hazards.

Inspectors from NNPH found urine, feces and controlled substances in common areas and stairwells. Hypodermic syringes discovered in the main stairwell were tested on-site by Reno Police Department and were positive for fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin. Due to the presence of these dangerous substances and biohazards, officials closed the facility’s stairwells and common spaces for remediation.

The stairwells serve as the primary exit routes for the building and were deemed unsafe, leading to a full evacuation of all residents. Officials with the City of Reno are working with community agencies to secure temporary housing for displaced residents until the building can be safely reopened.
