Scarlett Lewis, mother of a child who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting, is scheduled to speak from 6 to 7 p.m. May 3 in the theater at Reno High School, 395 Booth St.

Spanish interpretation will be provided, as will childcare.

Lewis’ message will be one of love, forgiveness, and hope, according to a letter sent by the Washoe County School District to families.

Her son, 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, was one of 19 students killed in December 2012 in his classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Five school staff members also died.

Scarlett Lewis has since focused on sharing her son’s message through the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement.

She plans to share additional tools for any adult to help promote a message of love among children through abilities that include understanding and managing emotions, feeling and showing empathy and compassion for others, among others.

Admission is free and open to the public.
