The City of Sparks is scheduled to light its Christmas tree during a ceremony from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday in Victorian Square, followed by a parade along Victorian Avenue from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

This year’s parade theme will put a “Battle Born” twist on the Christmas carol with “The Twelve Nevada Days of Christmas,” which will include floats representing each day (see lyrics below).

Also scheduled is a toy drive and community fair with information about how one can give back to their community this season.

Each parade entrant is judged for theme, originality, personality, and presentation. The judging categories are for best overall, business, vehicles, animals, community, costumed group, marching bands, and floats. Winners will be posted on the city’s Facebook page.

Spectator admission is free. For more information: http://cityofsparks.us/resources/resource/hometowne-christmas/

THE TWELVE NEVADA DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

On the twelfth day of Christmas, the Silver State gave to me:
Twelve battle born flags flying
Eleven Fremont cannons blasting
Ten feet of snow a-falling
Nine neon lights a-lighting
Eight trains a-railing
Seven lakes a-swimming
Six zephyrs blowing
Five golden nuggets
Four calling blue birds
Three picon punches
Two tumbleweeds
And a chukar in a pinyon pine tree
