Reno Irish Dance Company presents “SIAMSA: A Celtic Christmas” at the JA Nugget

siamsa-poster-2014-final-11-19-14-225x300-2247697-1327525The Reno Irish Dance Company (RIDCo) presents “SIAMSA: A Celtic Christmas” on December 13 at 7:30 p.m., and December 14 at 4 p.m. in the JA Nugget Celebrity Showroom.

“SIAMSA: A Celtic Christmas” was written by Amanda Coulson, who also serves as director and choreographer.

Amanda is the Artistic Director of the Reno Irish Dance Company and founder of Dancin! Performing Arts Center in Reno.

This show is a “siamsa” (pronounced Shimsa), which means celebration in Gaelic. The show brings a magical journey to life, telling the story of a little girl, Holly, in search of the meaning of Christmas.

Molly Hunsberger, of Reno, reprises the role of Holly, traveling and singing her way from Celtic village to village, meeting many talented performers along the way.

Performers include: Trent Kowalik, winner of the Tony Award for his Broadway role of Billy in Billy Elliott the Musical and World Champion Irish Dancer; Nicole McKeever, principal dancer in the world tour of Riverdance the Show; Marina Roznitovsky, Principal Harpist, Reno Chamber Orchestra and Nevada Opera; Pipe Major Reay Palmer and Co.; The McNiel Sisters, Maureen and Brigit, local talented fiddlers; Marcus Relyea-Perry, local dancer and performer; and, the talented Irish Dancers & Performers from The Reno Irish Dance Company.

A Celtic Christmas is a heartwarming tale and charming celebration of Celtic traditions, superstitions, customs, as well as amusing antics guaranteed to entertain the entire family.

She has a bachelor’s degree in American history, with a minor in American Indian studies, from San Francisco State University, and has a master’s degree in public administration from Sonoma State University. She enjoys training a variety of martial arts.
