TRAVEL NEVADA NEWS RELEASE
CARSON CITY–Anyone with a knack for customer service, sales or conversation can find an outlet for fun at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The Carson City treasure is looking for new volunteers who are willing to spend at least one four-hour shift per month helping staff and museum visitors. Volunteers are tasked with sharing the secrets and successes of the West’s important real-life legends—the railroads.
Admissions volunteers greet visitors from around the world, sell tickets and get to know exhibits. Retail store clerks help shoppers, present merchandise, answer phones and inventory. Docents help visitors tour the exhibits and answer questions in the main museum, or provide guided tours of the equipment areas.
Volunteers can choose the activity they are interested in serving. Shifts are generally 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Museum staff will train anyone interested in volunteering and match them with an experienced volunteer to make the learning easy. The museum is open Friday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2180 S. Carson Street just south of the capitol.
For information on becoming a volunteer, contact Lara Mather at (775) 687-6953, ext. 224.
