Virginia City brings out mobile applications for iPhone, iPad and Android devices

Date:

Mobile apps promote the Comstock’s rich heritage, attractions and events

VIRGINIA CITY – Visitors to the Comstock now can get information on mobile applications available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The apps provide details on Virginia City’s saloons, restaurants, special events, shopping, lodging and weather as well as historical information. Those using the apps also can check-in on social networking sites.

“Visitors have a whole new way to experience and interact with Virginia City on our mobile apps,” Denny Dotson, Virginia City tourism director, said. “We’re a little remote here at times, which means limited cellular service. With our new mobile apps, visitors are able to tour and experience our heritage, history, attractions and more without ever being out of touch.

“Additionally, visitors will be able to purchase tickets to some of our largest events, including Chili on the Comstock taking place in May and the International Camel Races in September,” Dotson continued. ” We’re going to continue to make updates to the app in an effort to truly make it a valuable resource for our visitors and locals.”

Virginia City mobile app features include:

  • Attractions
  • Tickets for special events and Virginia City Adventure Passes
  • Salons and eateries
  • Lodging
  • Special events
  • Calendar of events
  • Around Me, an augmented reality feature that uses geo-tracking points of interest based on current locations using the phone’s camera feature
  • Area map and weather
  • Facebook check-in and status posts, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Contact Virginia City

Download the mobile app on iTunes for iPhone, iPad or iTouch and on Google Play for Android devices.
