The weather was just right for the Grand Sierra Resort’s Beer & Chili Festival this past weekend. The public was invited to sample local, regional and national craft beer favorites alongside spicy bowls of chili. People could then vote for their favorite chili to win the title of People’s Choice.

The event was both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20 and entry was free for anyone who wanted to walk around and enjoy all there was to offer.

Alongside the chili and beer were other food vendors offering other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as other types of food, such as fries or funnel cakes.

The vendors were all conscientious of food restrictions, allowing for more members of the community to join in the festivities. I noticed plenty of vegan options from various trucks, like fried chicken tenders, kimchi, and multiple chilis.

Those serious for the cause could purchase a pass for unlimited beer tasting and tokens to redeem for free chili. However, no purchase was necessary to enjoy the fun.

The abundance of market stalls provided a break from all of the food, with goods ranging from clothing to crafts and at competitive prices. There was also live music and a plethora of picnic tables to sit and enjoy your food.

There was also a two-day cornhole tournament with teams competing for a free two-night stay at the GSR or $1,000. Registration, $80 per team, also included unlimited beer.

The weekend was a blast. In the end, the winners were:

  • Battle Born Food Truck for Saturday’s Chef Challenge and $1,000 for their charity of choice
  • Asian Street Eats for Sunday’s Chef Challenge and $1,000 for their charity of choice
  • Aces 1868 Professional Sports Catering for People’s Choice on both days of the festival
