Art Matters
Washoe County School District Art Teachers

McKinley Arts & Culture Center
Gallery East and West
September 9 – October 18, 2019
Reception: October 3, 5 – 7 PM

The City of Reno McKinley Galleries are proud to host “Art Matters,” an exhibition of work by the Art Teachers of the Washoe County School District (WCSD). The art featured ranges from ceramics to watercolor, from jewelry to oil painting. Teachers from grades 6 through 12 are represented. Their works span the spectrum of media and aesthetic. Digitally manipulated black and white photographs sit between small, abstract pen and ink drawings and large-scale acrylic portraits. The works are as diverse as the teachers who created them.

The WCSD art teachers “serve over 4,500 students annually in their studio classrooms.” Through art, they help their students build observational and problem solving skills. They teach their students introspection and empathy through the lens of creativity. To learn more about the WCSD and their mission, visit: https://www.washoeschools.net/
