Reno’s September calendar is packed with events unique only to the greater Reno area – from hot air balloons to camel races. The city and surrounding areas are hosting a variety of free and ticketed attractions for locals and visitors alike. The Great Reno Balloon Race is back, as are the camel and ostrich races in Virginia City.

- Great Reno Balloon Race. The balloon race is one of the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning events. In early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
- Pipes on the River: Bryan Chuan. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Trinity Cathedral’s Pipes on the River Concert Series, Bryan Chuan performs the complete organ sonatas of Felix Mendelssohn. The program is free and open to the public. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
- Flicks on the Bricks. “Flicks on the Bricks” is a free community event at Wingfield Park. The event offers the experience of enjoying family favorite movies in the park while enjoying the offerings from local food trucks and sellers of alcoholic beverages. Friday at Wingfield Park.
- International Camel & Ostrich Races. It’s the 65th year of the races and it’s guaranteed to be as hilarious and crazy as it sounds. Watch as camels, ostriches and even zebras gather in Virginia City to carry daring riders across the finish line. Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Virginia City.
- Comedian Willie Barcena. Raucous, irreverent and never politically correct, Willie Barcena is one of the sharpest minds in comedy. His universal material spans family, religion, race, sex, politics and whatever else you aren’t supposed to talk about. Friday at the National Automobile Museum.
