The Special Rural Community Investment Program is designed to support organizations that are exclusively committed to serving rural Nevadans. Through the program, SilverSummit has provided grants to both supplement existing projects and contribute to new initiatives that support housing, justice re-entry, maternal child health, youth recreation, nutrition education, food insecurity and more. To be chosen by the SilverSummit Community Investment Program Selection Committee, applicants must meet several criteria including eligibility, clarity in responses, technical compliance, cultural competence, evidence-based programming, outcome orientation, ability to address health disparities, and engagement of SilverSummit Members.

SilverSummit’s Special Rural Community Investment Program awardees include:

  • Carson Valley Health – To expand the Comprehensive Nutrition Education Program, which provides health management guidance to individuals at risk of contracting, or living with, diabetes, kidney disease and other health issues, into Douglas County.
  • Central Nevada Health District – To subsidize a nine-week youth summer program in Pershing and Mineral Counties to help prevent at-risk behaviors, which will include life-skills based games and group activities.
  • Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe – To upgrade medical equipment and enhance dental and clinical services at the Fallon Tribal Health Center, improving both the patient and provider experience.
  • Friends in Service Helping (FISH) – To fund monthly rent payments and security deposits for students residing in the Revitalization Project, a FISH initiative dedicated to providing stable housing, work readiness skills and financial literacy training for individuals transitioning from technical schooling to high-paying careers.

  • Lincoln Community Coalition of Nevada – To help create a novel resource center, which will provide virtual care and Medicaid and Veteran benefit application assistance to local residents emerging from incarceration or rehabilitation programs or who are experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Living Free Health & Fitness – To support its therapeutic workplace in Nye County, which rehabilitates and employs individuals recovering from substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health, medical or aging-related challenges.
  • NAMI Western Nevada – To advance the Freedom Bridges Peer Empowerment Program, which will support individuals living with mental illness and/or substance use disorders as they transition from incarceration into life in rural and frontier counties.

Additionally, they will offer educational scholarships for individuals with certain bleeding disorders, focusing on empowerment in high cost living areas.

  • Partnership Douglas County – To bolster the Empowering YOUth initiative, which offers four alternative activities to teach leadership skills and stress and anxiety management techniques.
  • Tahoe Youth and Family Services – To address gaps in affordable behavioral health services in Douglas County by funding individual mental health therapy and substance use disorder treatment for adults and youth.

Winged Wolf plays a consulting role within the RN CoC, a coordinated initiative under the Department of Housing and Urban Development aimed at combating homelessness across Nevada.
