It’s Halloween week! If you haven’t picked a costume yet, throw on a track suit and a look of fear—you’re either a Squid Game player or yourself circa March 2020.
This week brings a chance to hit up a handful of Halloween-themed events along with a few that sound themed but really aren’t. We’re not saying you can’t dress up for Monster Jam, we’re just not sure all the kids in the stands will appreciate your Michael Myers mask. Perhaps try President Camacho or Beef Supreme instead.
Here are a few picks for the week:
- Monster Jam, a perennial favorite, muscles into town for three weekend shows of “speed and skill” with trucks including Grave Digger and Max-D. With tires that big, we’re not sure how much skill it takes to flatten a Ford Festiva, but it makes for quite a spectacle. Link for information.
- Young Blood at The Holland Project is a showcase of work by local artists under 21. The fall exhibition is Tuesday through Saturday with no theme or specific genre of art—just a look at what young people are creating. Link for information.
- Heartscape’s Halloween Dance Bash is a party for singles at the MidSparks Event Center, adjacent to the Walton’s Funeral Home. Enough said.
- The Discovery has two Halloween events on Saturday: DIY Halloween Luminaries and its 10th Annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat. Come in costume and leave with extra treats. Both activities required ticketed admission.
- With perhaps the best costumes you’ll see this week, Metalachi brings their mix of metal and mariachi music to Virginia Street Brewhouse. Think Gene Simmons and Brett Michaels meet East L.A. cholos with sombreros.
