Reno Fire Department seeks arsonist

Fire investigators ask public for help in finding arsonist who set fire at fire station

Four fires over the last two days in Southwest Reno, including one on the exterior of Station #3, have fire investigators asking the community for help to identify suspects. Three of the fires were intentionally set and the fourth is still under investigation.

Investigators say the fires may be related. The timeline and details are below.

  • Wednesday, March 18 at 10:37 a.m. Reno Fire Department responded to an intentionally set fire behind the Save-Mart at 195 West Plumb Lane.
  • Thursday, March 19 at 4:54 p.m. fire personnel at Fire Station #3 at 580 West Moana Lane extinguished an intentionally set fire on the exterior wall of the station.
  • Thursday, March 19 at 10:12 p.m. firefighters put out a structure fire at 1170 Berrum Lane near Anderson Elementary School. Cause of this fire is still under investigation, but arson is suspected.
  • Thursday, March 19 at 10:19 p.m. firefighters responded to a tree on fire at 500 Brinkby Avenue, just a block-and-a-half away from the previous fire. Witnesses saw a male adult wearing a hat and backpack set the fire and leave the scene.
