DOWNTOWN: “It’s a ghost town out here”

All casinos were to close by noon today. I walked through downtown to see the visual impact. While some operations remain open, particularly liquor stores and at least one wedding chapel, many of the businesses downtown have closed in the wake of COVID-19.

They are following the direction of Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, who last night ordered “non-essential” businesses closed for at least 30 days. That included casinos.

“It’s a ghost town out here,” said a woman passing by in a wheelchair.
