8 things to do this week (that don’t require going out)

Date:

In lieu of our regular weekly events column, we’re bringing you a “coronapocalypse survival guide” to fill your time while you practice the art of social distancing.

  1. Catch up on This is Reno’s podcast for the latest on Reno’s sweep of homeless camps and Sheriff Balaam’s tips for handwashing. https://thisisreno.com/2020/03/coronavirus-reno-massive-sweep-of-homeless-camps/
  2. Hit your annual reading goal, learn a language, or start your studies to become the epidemiologist you pretend to be on Facebook. All you need is your Washoe County Library card to access e-books, audiobooks, magazines, Lynda courses and more in the all-online digital library. https://www.washoecountylibrary.us/downloads/
  3. Support local businesses. Coffee n’ Comics is offering curbside pickup and with their #LocalDollars campaign will give you a dollar back on each purchase you can use to support other local businesses that may be struggling as society slows to a crawl. https://thisisreno.com/2019/10/review-beans-bombs-and-broomsticks-at-coffee-n-comics/
  4. Connect with UNR’s Cooperative Extension online for a host of nutrition and physical fitness activities to keep your kids busy during their spring break. Scroll down to “Informational Publications” for tools at https://extension.unr.edu/publications.aspx
  5. Help Stuff a Bus for Seniors by buying a few extra supplies they may need but can’t access due to health concerns. Call Washoe County Senior Services for details: 775-328-2575.
  6. Cozy up to YouTube to learn a craft or skill, hone your cooking skills, or keep in shape with free yoga and fitness videos. Or keep watching cat videos; those never get old.
  7. Get your shopping delivered. Now’s a great time to check out home delivery for groceries. Or for cannabis, at https://shop.blackbirdgo.com/.
  8. CANCELED, moving to May: And if you get stir crazy and decide to venture into the world, check out A Night Out in Reno to support local nonprofits. https://thisisreno.com/2020/03/a-night-out-in-reno-benefits-nonprofits-sponsored/

Check with venues and event organizers before attending events. This Is Reno’s events calendar is populated by third-party services, and as such, we cannot verify details for each event.
