DÃa de los Muertos brought out colorful costumes and festive celebrations Saturday, Nov. 2 at several Reno events, including at Reno Little Theater and University of Nevada, Reno.
Day of the Dead, as it translates to English, is a Mexican tradition in remembrance of friends and family who have died. Rather than being a mournful occasion, participants see it as a time when those who have died awaken and celebrate with them.
Reno Little Theater’s event was held in partnership with Latino ARTE in the Wells Avenue area. The event featured dancing, food vendors, face painting, and a parade of papier-mâché puppets.
The Latino Research Center at UNR also hosted a celebration at the Joe Crowley Student Union. Activities included performances, hands-on activities, food, and altars on display.
