Kicking off their new season — and the theater’s 85th year in operation — Reno Little Theater presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy “Harvey.” Elwood P. Dowd, the kindest man one would ever meet, has a strange best friend: an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit named Harvey.
Elwood’s imaginary friend is starting to ruin his sister and niece’s social life, so the two decide to do something about it — they commit him to a sanatorium.
The show was hilarious and entertaining the whole way through. The most enjoyable aspect were the characters. Each actor fit into their role so well it was as if it was real life. The level of acting experienced at this performance sets up a new standard.
The set changes were also interesting, with well-thought out transformative transitions. There was some action occurring during these moments, which is always appreciated. It allowed for the suspension of disbelief to continue through the brief breaks.
There were a few moments that went over my head during the performance, but discussing these afterwards brought out new meaning to certain scenes. This play is definitely one best enjoyed with a friend and calls for some interesting conversations.
Reno Little Theater has also installed all-new seating. The space has undergone a massive upgrade—be one of the first audiences to experience the luxuries.
The hilarious antics, commendable acting and improved viewing experience makes “Harvey” one of the best productions Reno Little Theater has ever put on. The level of excellence makes me all the more excited to see what else they’re bringing to the table this season. You can’t miss your chance to see this whimsical performance.
