Washoe County is warning residents to steer clear of a telephone scam that involves a caller pretending to be with the County Recorder’s Office’s “map department” and requesting payment.

“Washoe County residents should be advised that they will not receive calls from the County Recorder’s Office requesting payment,” according to a statement Washoe County made on Twitter.

The Washoe County Recorder’s Office handles documents related to real property, such as deeds and deeds of trust, homesteads, liens, and easements, among others. It’s also responsible for recording maps, mining documents, and marriage certificates.
