VIDEO: Homeless Feeding Draws Small Crowd, Plenty of Thanks

Date:

Reno’s anonymously promoted “Great Homeless Feedoff” held today promised to be loosely organized. It was. A group of about 10 gathered near the BELIEVE sculpture at City Plaza at 11 a.m. prepared with carts of food, water, Gatorade, snacks, and boxes of hygiene packs provided by Reno Satanic.

Included were an IT professional, a teacher, parents and their children, and Sparks City Council Candidate Wendy Stolyarov. Not sure of next steps, the small group waited until about five past 11 and headed down the Truckee River bike path to give away the supplies.

The group meandered down the path and back, meeting with folks along the river, offering water and snacks to anybody along the way. They ended up back at the plaza and then proceeded through Wingfield Park.

While it was a small gathering, Stolyarov said about 50 people were contacted. Much appreciation was expressed.

It turns out that wasn’t the only group. According to the Welcome to Beautiful Reno, NV Facebook page, which pushed the event, more volunteers picked up pizza and served it at the Record Street feeding location.

“We basically picked up two huge and generous donations from Pizzava and Noble Pie and went to Record [Street] by the clinic to pass out the pizza,” the page’s anonymous administrator said. “There is a group there that already meets up the first third and fifth Sunday of every month to give them meals, and so we teamed up and gave out pizza in addition to the meals and people were very stoked on getting some pizza.”
