A “Great Homeless Feedoff” is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at City Plaza downtown. It’s being organized by the Welcome to Beautiful Reno, Nevada, the anonymous funny page that takes no prisoners in its snark and critiques of personalities and local institutions. And Reno in general.

“We’ve got pizza donations from Pizzava and Noble Pie that we will be giving out, and we are encouraging everyone else to go downtown with Clif Bars, soft granola bars, and water, and to pass them out,” the page announced.

The effort appears to be inspired in part by comments made about homelessness that blame the homeless for their conditions.

“Contrary to what some idiots would have you believe, ‘they’re not all lazy drug addicts who want to stay homeless to get, ‘free stuff,'” the organizer wrote. “In fact how anyone could type that out, and not immediately think it was the dumbest sentence since ‘vaccines cause autism,’ then actually choose to hit ‘enter’ is beyond us.”

A Facebook commenter also said that Reno’s Satanists will be handing out bags with toiletries, snacks, and cash.

“‘Let’s do something positive for our community and help some people in need,” Welcome to Beautiful Reno wrote. “We are encouraging everyone to take and share photos and video with each other, just please be mindful and ask first if you’re going to photograph any homeless people. Maybe even talk to some of them a bit and learn their story.”
