Inaugural Reno Venture Conference invites local startups to compete on May 14 & 15
The Economic
Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) will host the inaugural
Reno Venture Conference on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15 at The
Nevada Museum of Art. Eleven local startups will compete for potential
investment opportunities. The conference will also include an investor
education workshop, panel discussions with experienced angel investors
and a keynote from Ray Muzyka, co-founder of BioWare.
The inaugural Reno Venture Conference’s mission is to increase
early-stage investment in the local economy. EDAWN received a grant from
the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, within the U.S. Economic
Development Administration, to launch a Reno-based seed fund and
venture conference. The grant focuses on encouraging more investment
into local startups.
“We want to fuel the power of entrepreneurship by providing our local
companies with the ability to seek growth capital in Northern Nevada,”
said EDAWN President and CEO, Mike Kazmierski. “Providing startup
companies with the necessary resources to be successful is critical for
the overall health of our economy.”
Of the 68 applications, 11 companies were selected. The companies are:
Pre-Seed Track – (Early stage product development)
– Crytica
– JellySwitch
– Lorable
– TrenLot
– Vet Companion
Seed Track – (Validated product and at or near revenue)

In addition to the startup competition, the conference will showcase the

Bootcamp, as well as the winner of the University of Nevada, Reno
Business School – Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition. The companies
are:
– Smart Greenhouses
– Rysta GmbH

Companies who are selected to pitch are not guaranteed investment, only

conference, funding amounts, provided by several participating angel
funds, will be announced.
