Nevada State Controller Catherine Byrne gave a heck of a Mother’s Day gift to presidential candidate U. S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Byrne gave her full endorsement to Warren in a brief announcement that was made public over the weekend.

“Elizabeth Warren has proven time and again, she’s the right candidate to break up the system of inequality that has held families and children back for decades,” Byrne wrote. “She comes from humble Oklahoma beginnings and has spent much of her life trying to understand why America’s middle class continues to be locked out and left behind. Right now, our economy works best for those at the top, but I believe with Elizabeth Warren as President we can put opportunities back in the hands of every American, regardless of where you’re from, what you look like, who you love, or how much you make.”

Prior to this endorsement, Warren received her first Nevada endorsement from former State Senator Joe Neal. Byrne introduced the Senator at her Reno campaign stop on April 7th at Wooster High School.

What makes the major endorsement unusual is that it is still away from the February 2020 caucuses.

Since the beginning of the 2019 legislative session, Carson City and the Reno area were visited by numerous candidates seeking the Democratic Party nomination.

The Nevada Democratic Party Caucus is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2020, which will lead up to the convention in summer of 2020 and will be a week before the New Hampshire primary.

CORRECTION: The Nevada Democratic Party Caucus is in 2020, not 2019, as originally reported. The error was a typo.
