Tree Planting Aims to Rehab Little Valley Burn Area

Volunteers gathered this Saturday at a Bowers Mansion to help replant a burned area from the Little Valley Fire that got out of control when the Nevada Division of Forestry in 2016 left a controlled burn unattended.

With the help of NDF and the Sugar Pine Foundation, volunteers took to the hills to plant one-year-old seedlings. The tiny seedlings are rather frail and volunteers took to hiking the side of the mountain looking for just the right conditions for the trees to survive and grow.

Maria Mircheva, executive director of the Sugar Pine Foundation, was on hand to demonstrate the best planting style and hand of the necessary equipment.
