Summit to Help Dairy and Livestock Producers Reduce Economic Risk

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Nevada Risk Management Education Program presents the 2019 Nevada Dairy and Livestock Summit to help agricultural businesses and government leaders create plans to minimize economic risk.

The summit, held in partnership with the City of Fallon, Churchill Economic Development Authority and local sponsors, will take place 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., April 23, at the Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way in Fallon.

There is no cost to attend the summit, and lunch is provided by the City of Fallon. Session topics include:

  • Economic Impacts of the Agricultural Sector on Churchill County, presented by Cooperative Extension Economic Specialist Tom Harris, who is also the director of the University of Nevada, Reno Center for Economic Development.
  • Trends in International, National and Nevada Agricultural Prices and Markets, presented by Research Analyst and Agricultural Economist Mike Helmar, with the University’s Center for Economic Development.
  • Impacts of World Market Trends and New Farm Bill on Dairy and Livestock Sector in the Nation and State of Nevada, presented by Professor of Agricultural Economics George Knapek, with Texas A&M University.
  • Central Nevada Agriculture: What is Currently Going On and What is in the Future, presented by Churchill Economic Development Authority Executive Director Nate Strong.

Preregistration is required to ensure enough food for lunch.
