Reno Weekly Events: March 1-7, 2019

Art

Hosted at the Nevada Museum of Art, BRDI Presents: Ollie Lundberg of Lundberg Design on Saturday, 3/2. This latest installment of the Black Rock Design Institute series explores the guiding principles and aesthetics of Lundberg Design founder, Ollie Lundberg. He will discuss the “Five Food Groups” (metal, stone, glass, wood and found objects) and how these elements contribute to the unique identity of Lundberg Design. Doors open at 10am with coffee in the Theater Lobby; program begins at 11am.

On Wednesday, 3/6, explore art and spirituality at the Morris Burner Hotel during their Pagan Arts Night/Magical Inks. There will be various art projects centered on Pagan and polytheistic religions. “Teaching art side by side with the faith that created it gives a deeper understanding, both of the art as well as the faith.” 6pm-8pm, $5.

Comedy

On Thursday 3/7, Reno Tahoe Comedy presents comedian and political satirist, Will Durst. “With the sacred cows begging to have their pomposity punctured, the world cries for a man with the aim, strength and style to hit them where it hurts the funniest. Will Durst is that man.” Showtimes and ticket pricing can be found on the RTC Facebook page. 17+.

Dancing

Join Plaza Maya for Cumbia Dance Night! An evening of food, cumbia music, community and live art by Les Lee awaits at the S. Wells location on Saturday night. Donations are welcome at the door with proceeds going to support the Sylvia Rivera Center for Social Justice. 7pm, 18+.

Music

The Record Company comes to the Cargo Concert Hall, supporting their Grammy-nominated album, “All of This Life”, on Friday, 3/1. Joining them onstage will be Reno rockers, Silver. $25 tickets will be available at the door. Doors at 7pm; show at 8pm.

Theater

On both Friday and Saturday night, Chris Daniels debuts I’m Spiritual and All I Have to Show for It Is This Award, an original one-man show. Daniels shares his journey to find what it means to be spiritual in the 21st century. Full of irreverent humor, engaging storytelling, and heart-felt anecdotes, Daniels relates how to live a harmonious life, at least according to his rock collection. Presented at Good Luck Macbeth, this show is the first in a series of one-man shows set to premiere over the next two years. Tickets are available online. $15 adv/$20 door; 7:30 performance.

Brüka Theatre for Children proudly presents an original production of Galileo – Stars In His Eyes. Debuting at the Brüka Theatre in Reno on March 7th, 8th, 9th 2019 at 11am, the production is about the scientist Galileo, his incredible discoveries and life’s challenges, as experienced through the perspective of his 9-year old daughter Virginia.

His discoveries and their connection are woven through this fast-paced, eye-opening piece of live theatre. Tickets are $5 for ages 12 years old and under, $10 for general admission and are available online.
