TMCC Offers New Degree in Communications

Date:

By Jennifer Rey

New to their repertoire of programs, Truckee Meadows Community College will be offering a two-year Associate’s Degree in Communications available for students beginning in the Fall of 2019. According to the college, research indicated that employers are looking for communication skills in recent college graduates. A degree in communications is ranked second in a top 10 list of most popular degrees, according to the 2018 Princeton Review.

The degree will focus on teaching aspects of speech, writing, and the impact of media on individuals and society, as well as inter and intrapersonal relationships.

“Students now are typically stunning visual communicators,” said Eric Bullis, communications program director. Students have learned to navigate image-driven platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, and tend to be savvy consumers of streaming content through services like Netflix and YouTube.

“Students drawn to this degree are hungry for authenticity in their lives,” Bullis added. “They have a desire to reach out and connect with people around them. This desire for connection can also lead to successful outcomes, both personally and professionally.”

For more information about this new degree program, contact Dr. Erick Bullis at (775) 420-1970.
