Revelers rang in the New Year in frigid, 20-degree temperatures last night in downtown Reno. While the cold conditions kept many of the celebrators indoors for much of the evening, Virginia Street swelled with onlookers as it got closer to midnight.
A sea of people, phones to the sky, watched as fireworks announced the arrival of 2019. As soon as the fireworks ended, the streets quickly began emptying as people sought warmer locations. While most continued their evening of partying or headed home, some participants ended their evening in the custody of the Reno Police Department.
RPD reported no significant incidents but arrested 14 people and gave out 12 citations.
“The crowds were extremely positive with the increased safety precautions … and (were) very thankful for the police presence,” said RPD Lieutenant Robert Larson.
