Last week Yelp hosted their annual Yelpstronomy event combining both science and the artistry of food. Guests experienced a hands-on, interactive journey while enjoying local food and drink and supporting the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, which received 100 percent of the proceeds.

At Yelpstronomy guests wander around the museum sampling food and drinks while engaging with the people who know the products best, learning the how and why behind creating these delicious victuals. They are encouraged to ask questions and participate while visiting each booth and interactive lab.

Examples of the interactive labs included:

  • The evolution of cuisine with Reno’s only modernist chef, John Weatherson, from Restaurant Trokay;
  • The process of making gin – What gives it that unique flavor, aroma, and character? Why is one bottle so wildly different from another? – and how to use it to create inspired cocktails with Michael Moberly, spirits program director at Whispering Vine Wine Co.; and,
  • Kava Corner from SOL Kava where they discussed the effects of the medicinal root known as kava and how it can increase mental clarity, boost creativity, and enhance your sociable self.

There was also live music, swag, and prizes. The event was free to the public with a suggested minimum $15 donation. Follow Yelp Reno on Facebook for the next local Yelp event.
