Artown presents a truly unique performance at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 15. “Piaf! The Show” is an intriguing presentation that narrates the rags-to-riches story of Parisian singer Edith Piaf’s career through her unforgettable songs, complemented by a visual tapestry of previously unreleased photographs and images of famous locations of the Edith Piaf era.

Edith Piaf rose to fame in the late 40s and 50s with her music specialty being chanson (classic, lyric-driven French songs) and torch ballads particularly of love, loss, and sorrow. Among her well-known songs are “La Vie en rose,” ”Non je ne regretted rien,” “Hymne a l’amour,” “Milord,” “La Foule,” and “L’Accordeoniste.” In 2007, the movie “La Vie en Rose,” premiered.

This French musical film portrayed the life of Edith Piaf starring Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard. Piaf has acquired a legacy as one of the greatest performers of the 20th century and her voice and music continue to be celebrated globally.
