Hailing from Reno, the Voodoo Cats are life-long friends that started playing music together in 1986. But their live shoes will instantly remind you of how a concert was played in the early 70’s. You rarely see bands play like this anymore, and they know how it’s done.
They’re not your average band.
The band prides themselves on being great fans of music as well as knowing the history of rock. Heavily influenced by legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, they also draw inspiration from Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Tommy Bolin. You can hear all of these influences in their original compositions, which blend together into what they call voodoo music.
These cats have opened up for the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Black Crowes just to name a few.
The Voodoo Cats band members include, Del Monroe (lead vocals), Paul Schum (lead guitar), Steve Funk (bass), and Lou Werlinger (drums).
The band recently played a gig at the Studio on 4th, an awesome local Reno venue, where they tore it up like they always do. I’ve seen these guys play a few times now and they keep impressing the hell out of me every time. They really take playing live very seriously and it shows, they get better with every show for sure. The Voodoo Cats are a must-see band.
Their next show is May 27, 2017 at another great Reno venue, The Third St. Bar at 125 W. Third Street. Tickets for the show are $10 and the bill includes local band Seedless 10DenC.
