Reno’s 2017 Earth Day Celebration is Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Idlewild Park. Opening ceremonies will kick off the event starting at 10:30 a.m. on the “Earth Day Around the World” Stage with a multi-faith invocation lead by religious statesman Rajan Zed. The invocation will include Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Native American, and Baha’i prayers focused on a healthier environment and respecting the nature of the planet we live on. The invocation will be followed by a presentation of the colors by Reed High School Navy JROTC color guard and finally an address by City of Reno Councilmember Naomi Duerr.

The purpose of the Earth Day Around the World area is to highlight some of the perspectives of other cultures on environmental concerns. While modern US culture may be concerned with how to recycle more, reduce use of carbon fuels, or eat healthier – for many cultures across the world the environmental concerns are still about access to clean drinking water and successful permaculture. Please come visit some amazing organizations working to solve issues across the entire planet we share.
