Angela Taylor, president of the Washoe County School District board of trustees, announced Wednesday she was diagnosed with breast cancer and her hand in board activities will be limited while she focuses on treatment and recovery.
Taylor represents District E, consisting of northwest Reno and Verdi. She was appointed to the position in December 2014 when former trustee David Aiazzi resigned citing health reasons. She won a full 4-year term during the November 2016 election.
In addition to her role on the school board, Taylor is president and CEO of Guardian Quest Inc., an organization specializing in providing training, organizational development, and leadership solutions for corporate, government, educational, and military clients across North America. She’s also founder and CEO of ExcelQuest Community Development Corporation, a training agency that works with the faith-based community and small non-profit organizations, according to her district profile.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, master’s degree in public administration and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Taylor’s statement is as follows:
“I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and as a result, intend to focus all my efforts and energies on my treatment and recovery. Consequently, my Board of Trustees activities will be limited over the next several months.
“I am blessed to have the support of my faith, family, friends, and a great medical team to carry me through this difficult time. In the meantime, I would appreciate respect for my privacy as I focus on making a full recovery and return to health.
