Looking for something to do in Reno? Look no further than the Nevada Museum of Art (NMA). As the only accredited art museum in Nevada, the NMA offers meaningful art and cultural experiences, is kid-friendly, and even includes a French-inspired restaurant. The staff is accommodating and knowledgeable about the artists and works of art, often offering insights and fun facts as you tour.

Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art

This collection contains 80 years of art from American and Mexican-American artists, including over 100 paintings, photographs, and prints. The artists depicted a variety of unique cultural aspects that emerged after the 1910-1920 Mexican Revolution.

A Place in the Country: Aboriginal Australian Paintings

Featuring works by only female artists, this exhibition includes paintings from Indigenous people from diverse communities across Australia. The indigenous people, who are inextricably bound to their land, transform things such as stories, dances, and songs, as well as locations of water holes and food sources, into visual form.

Spinifex: Aboriginal Paintings

This exhibit features paintings made by the Pila Nguru, also known as the Spinifex people, of the Great Victoria Desert in Western Australia. The Spinifex Arts Project, established in 1996, was created as a way for the people to document and record land after they were forced from the Great Victoria Desert due to the Australian government’s atomic testing program in the 1950s.

Peter Stichbury: Anatomy of a Phenomenon

The John and Mary Lou Paxton Collection

This collection comprises of pieces by artists ranging from minimalist compositions and quiet landscapes, to Native American art of the Southwest, collected over the years by John and Mary Lou Paxton.

The Altered Landscape

The Altered Landscape collection is one of the NMA’s largest focused collections with approximately 2,000 photographs. Through these images, artists remark on ways individuals and industries have marked, mined, toured, tested, developed, occupied, and exploited landscapes over the last fifty years.

This exhibits features drawings and paintings by American artist Maynard Dixon, whose art was focused on the American West.

Trevor Paglen: Orbital Reflector

Fourteen feet in diameter, the Mylar balloon hangs in the Donald W. Reynolds Grand Hall as a model for future artwork by contemporary artist Trevor Paglen. The artist plans to launch a similar balloon into orbit as a purely artistic gesture.
