VIDEO: “The Joy” This Weekend at Good Luck Macbeth

Date:

Would you offer your life to make a difference for the ones you leave behind?

Jeanmarie Bishop brings her one-woman show, “The Joy”, to Good Luck Macbeth this weekend with two shows on Saturday, Jan. 14 and one show Sunday, Jan. 15.

This is the story of Mary Dyer, a devoted Quaker woman in a time when life was a commodity to control and religious freedom was still just a fantasy that would not even be taken seriously for decades to come.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Jeanmarie in deep discussion of the play, her motivations in writing and performing this work, the politics of the time of Mary Dyer and politics of modern times. I was very taken with her passion and sensitivity to the subject of freedom of religion and I am very excited to see one of the performances this weekend.

Here is a short video interview with Jeanmarie talking about Mary Dyer and the times in which she lived.

Showtimes for “The Joy” this weekend at Good Luck Macbeth are Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. Admission is “pay-what-you-can,” plus at least one canned or non-perishable food item. The play is for mature audiences.
