The public is invited to attend a free legislative energy policy forum the afternoon of Thursday, February 2, 2017, to learn about some of the energy bills being introduced soon at the Nevada Legislature. The energy forum will be held at the Innevation Center, 450 Sinclair Street in Reno, from 2:30-5:00 p.m.

The event’s keynote speaker is State Senator Dr. Patricia Spearman, a retired Lieutenant Colonel (U.S. Army) and Nevada’s leading advocate for strengthening the national security of the U.S. through sustainable energy policies

The forum also features other speakers and topics:

  • Nevada Assemblyman William McCurdy II will explain the need for his bill to improve Nevada’s economy by expanding energy efficiency programs, particularly for low-income utility customers.
  • Reno City Councilman David Bobzien will address the topic of “How Local Governments are Advancing Clean Energy.”
  • Jessica Scott of Vote Solar, a non-profit organization working to make solar affordable and accessible to more Americans, will explain both a bill designed to recharge Nevada’s roof top solar industry and another bill that enables a variety of Community Solar Gardens to be developed in Nevada.
  • Tom Polikalas of the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) will explain how energy efficiency creates jobs and powers sustainable economic growth.

The forum is free, but space is limited. For more information call the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) at (775) 386-7411. The link to register for the forum is at http://bit.ly/2jr22dq.
