Mesa Rim Climbing and Fitness Center held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for its new 24,000-square-foot location on Harvard Way.

The five-story building, near downtown, is expected to open in the summer of 2017.

Mesa Rim will combine fitness, climbing and social spaces.

“The custom designed facility will feature 30- to 50-foot-tall indoor climbing walls designed for beginners and expert climbers alike, with lead climbing, top rope climbing and a large bouldering area,” said Marlowe Kulley, Mesa Rim’s manager. “In addition to the diverse climbing terrain, Mesa Rim will feature a dedicated studio-quality yoga studio, a full-service fitness area with weights and cardio equipment, spa-quality locker rooms, and a sauna.

“The facility also boasts a spacious lounge and communal workspace that opens to an outdoor deck with views of Mt. Rose.”

The company operates three similar locations in Southern California.

“This is a large and complicated project, and we couldn’t have made it happen without the support of our amazing construction and architecture team, our local investors and our partners at Celtic Bank,” Kulley said. “We are all so excited to start construction of project that will become a landmark for the Reno community.”
