Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) detectives have arrested a man on charges related to human remains found in a burned vehicle earlier this year.
Corey Massengale, 27 of Silver Springs, was arrested for the murder of 47-year-old Shannon Miller.
“At approximately 7:00 a.m. on the morning of July 15, Sheriff’s Office deputies located Massengale walking alone on State Route 447 approximately one mile north of the area where the burnt vehicle was found,” detectives said. “Massengale was arrested on unrelated charges and later transferred to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office who took him into custody on charges in that jurisdiction.”
After an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said that it had enough evidence to charge Massengale with open murder, first-degree kidnapping and a count for first-degree arson.
Massengale and Miller had known each other before she was found dead, according to the WCSO.
