The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office announced today that an inmate died while in custody during a medical emergency on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Keely Ann Darmody, 25, of Reno.

“She was booked into the Detention Facility on Thursday, August 18, 2016 for contempt of court after failing a court-ordered drug test,” said Bob Harmon, the Sheriff’s Office public information officer. “Due to concerns about her medical condition, she was placed in the Detention Facility’s infirmary on August 20.

“At approximately 9:27 a.m. on August 23, deputies checked on Darmody and reported no issues.  Deputies checked on her again at 9:40 a.m. and discovered that she was not breathing. Deputies and medical staff immediately began life saving measures and the woman was transferred … to Renown Medical Center where she passed away.”

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office is determining the cause of death. The Sheriff’s Office said that because of health privacy laws it would not be commenting further about the inmate’s medical condition at the time of death.
