Date:

trail-rehab-300x225-6394406-7552463Friends of Nevada Wilderness is seeking volunteers in June to help with restoration work along the Hunter Creek Trail in Mt. Rose Wilderness.

The group is partnering with the U.S. Forest Service to host five stewardship projects to help with invasive weed abatement and improve the health of the Truckee River watershed.

“Because of the ongoing hand pulling efforts from Friends of Nevada Wilderness volunteers over the last 10 years we have made a big dent in the musk thistle population in the area,” said Daniel Morris, Recreation Officer for the U.S. Forest Service Carson Ranger District, “Invasive plants are a very real threat to wilderness character in the Mt. Rose Wilderness and every opportunity to remove these weeds is valuable.”

Friends of Nevada Wilderness’ invasive weed removal efforts are funded by the Truckee River Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.
