Performing Arts Association Awards Money to Local Schools

The Sierra Nevada Performing Arts Association (SNPAA), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recently awarded $3,600 to the winners of the inaugural Washoe County High School Performing Arts Competition.

The competition included the top three Washoe County High School bands, orchestras and choirs, based on scoring in prior 2016 competitions.

Schools were judged by independent judges, who all used the same adjudication system in the Washoe County School District for all competitions. Awards of $600 for 1st Place, $400 for 2nd Place and $200 for 3rd Place were awarded to each school. Each participating school was given 30 minutes to perform their best works.

The results of the competition are as follows:

Bands:

1st Place:         McQueen High School
2nd Place:        Galena High School
(Damonte Ranch HS was not able to attend due to a scheduling conflict)

Orchestras:

1st Place:         McQueen High School
2nd Place:        Galena High School
3rd Place:        Spanish Springs HS

Choirs:
1st Place:         McQueen HS Select Mixed Ensemble
2nd Place:        Damonte Ranch HS Lunch Choir
3rd Place:        Reno HS Vocal Motion

SNPAA provides scholarships to students graduating from our local high schools pursuing higher education in the Performing Arts. As part of their efforts to provide grants and other funding to various organizations, SNPAA also holds fundraisers such as their annual Reno Tahoe Music Festival August 26 – 28, 2016 at the Hawkins Outdoor Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch in Reno.
